| Directions | Mary Stewart wrote a series of four books about the life of Merlin the magician. My Grandfather (pictured to the right) loved these books. He passed his interest in these book on to my Mother. When she purchased her property on Lake MIlton, she named her property after the Welsh name for Merlin: Myrddin (Emrys). It is pronounced "Murthin" in Welsh. We pronounce it in the way that we think most of our patrons will feel comfortable pronouncing it, "Meerdin".
Merlin Ambrosius (Welsh: Myrddin Emrys; also known as Myrddin Wyllt (Merlin the Wild), Merlin Caledonensis (Scottish Merlin), Merlinus, and Merlyn) is the personage best known as the mighty wizard featured in accounts of Arthur of Britain starting with Geoffrey of Monmouth's Historia Regum Britanniae. Other accounts describe a far different Merlin. When we started our winery on this property, we named it Myrddin Winery. Each time I say the name, It gives me the chance to remember my Grandfather fondly. |
